One initiative that we hope to start in both Austintown and Boardman is a project that provides kid-friendly, non-perishable, easily consumed and vitamin fortified food to children who may need this type of food over the weekend.

The kind of food items  would be kid friendly, non-perishable, easily-consumed and vitamin-fortified.  Examples might be: single serving cereal boxes/bowls, applesauce, raisins crackers; shelf stable milk; 100% juice boxes; Pop-top cans of beans & franks, chicken noodles; macaroni & cheese; fruit and/or pudding cups; granola bars; fruit snacks; animal crackers; etc.

We would deliver the food to the school and then the school would see that it would be delivered to the appropriate backpacks.  Expected cost will be about $25 per child per month sponsored by the churches, businesses, and people of the respective community.

If you are interested in finding out ways that you can be involved in the Backpack Challenge or have others ideas to share, please contact us.
